ABOUT DR. LAKE
Rebecca S. Lake, Ed.D. is retired and has now started her own company, Rebecca Lake Consulting. She is an ApprenticeshipUSA Leader and an invited speaker at workforce and apprenticeship conferences across the county. Rebecca is particularly well-known for starting the 2015 national movement for community colleges to be a Registered Apprenticeship sponsor while at Harper College. She has hosted apprentice conferences and publishes articles on various facets surrounding apprenticeships. Throughout her career, she has successful written and managed many large community college grants. Previously, Rebecca designed, created, and taught in the Community College Leadership (CCL) doctoral program at National Louis University serving as program director for 10 years. She spent the first half of her professional life involved in health planning, hospital and health care administration, and nursing while the second half in community college education and administration. Rebecca has held community college positions of faculty, assistant dean, career and technology (CTE) dean, and academic vice-president.

A leading mind in apprenticeship program implementation for more than 10 years, Dr. Rebecca Lake will leverage her vast knowledge to help both colleges and employers connect students to the hands-on experience needed for success in today’s workforce. She has designed and successfully implemented a variety of traditional and non-traditional registered apprenticeship programs in various colleges and possesses a well-earned national reputation in the apprenticeship field with a focus on creating targeted change and delivering value for clients. Dr. Lake’s expertise focuses on everything surrounding the development and implementation of apprenticeship initiatives in companies and colleges. She is well-regarded nationally and considered the “gold standard” for registered apprenticeship programs found in community colleges; particularly those not yet participating in apprenticeships.
Grant Management
A talented proficiency for large grant management, Dr. Rebecca Lake will bring her resourcefulness and knowledge to assist colleges become successful in reaching grant goals. She has designed, implemented, and successfully reached programmatic outcomes of grants at various community colleges throughout her career. Dr. Lake’s expertise focuses on the post-award processes providing clarity regarding standardization of grant management, practices and procedures, strategies to improve grant team work as well as how to braid college funding to exponentially improve a grant’s impact across the college. She understands grant challenges and will collaborate with executive and programmatic staff to develop and implement workable grant management strategies. Serving much more than a resource, Dr. Lake will suggest numerous creative ideas to gain the most from your grant efforts in order to positively impact your students, partners, communities, and the institution.

A gifted and energetic speaker, Dr. Lake is available to present at conferences or webinars across the country. Her topics include community colleges, strategic planning, employer engagement, apprenticeships, and grant management. She hosted 2 very successful large national community college apprenticeship conferences while still at Harper College outside of Chicago before the COVID pandemic. Dr. Lake has spoken at many conferences and venues throughout the country on various topics of interest to the community college field and businesses. She will present creatively, authentically, and adapt the topic selected to your specific conference needs. Notable is her ability to move the topic forward so audiences find content pertinent, understandable, and useful. Her expertise regarding various topics comes from years in community colleges, workforce development, direct relationships working with companies, and hands-on experience in the grants field
