Dr. Rebecca Lake
Dr. Rebecca Lake is a leading consultant in the field of apprenticeship program development and implementation for colleges. She has served as the Harper College Dean of Workforce and Economic Development administering the college registered apprenticeship initiative. Through her ingenuity, Harper became one of the first community colleges in the country to become a registered apprenticeship program sponsor. She has written 11 and implemented nine registered apprenticeship programs at Harper. These programs served over 200 apprentices and 54 area companies. Because of her work, Dr. Lake has been named an ApprenticeshipUSA leader. She has a well-earned, national reputation in the apprenticeship field with a focus on creating targeted change and delivering value for clients.
Her consulting services are as unique and innovative as she is because of her diverse knowledge, experience, and creativity. Dr. Lake became a consultant because of the opportunity to utilize her expertise in solving issues arising from real-world situation community colleges face. She has over 20 years successfully managing large grants. Few have a better track-record in the post-award grant processes than Dr. Lake. She has supported with her expertise colleges with state and federal grants. She helps colleges determine the optimal way to manage grants, understand additional options to streamline the process, and identify system enhancement opportunities. Dr. Lake’s primary goal is to assist colleges successfully reach their grant participation goals and program outcomes while spending all of the grant funding within a specific time.
Dr. Lake is an innovative, confident speaker on topics of interest to community colleges, organizations and individuals. She makes the specific topic relevant, the complex understandable, and provides actionable content. She is a grounded, authentic speaker connecting well with audiences. Dr. Lake has a vast range of experience during her professional career that serves as the basis for her presentations. Her long experience includes involvement in health planning, hospital and health care administration, nursing, community college teaching and higher education administration. Before coming to Harper College, Dr. Lake created the Community College Leadership (CCL) doctoral program at National Louis University, serving as program director for 10 years. She has held the community college positions of faculty, assistant dean, career and technology (CTE) dean, and academic vice-president throughout her respected career.
